I ordered a new 20" 2GHz iMac from the Apple store last Thursday, 5/5/05. My order said it's shipping on or before 5/12--I added the 400GB HD.

Today, 5/11, the order status now says that my iMac configuration has been "replaced with new product."

The only difference in the configuration of the "new" iMac on the order status screen is the addition of something called "Accessory Kit w/ Modem 065-5559." The old configuration said "No Modem Accessory Kit 065-5847."

I can't find any info on this on the Apple website, and nothing comes up when I look up the part number. Can anybody tell me what this accessory kit is? Thanks.

Since all the machines come with a modem, and don't have the delete modem option...

They just switched you over to the regular iMac BTO configuration with a modem.

Still odd that database errors like this are just now getting ironed out.

Edit: Hopefully this isn't simply over a darn modem cable and manual that comes in the box, and a db error.

Jeepers, I bet you're right: the "accessory kit" is probably just the modem cable.

Yeah... I didn't get a manual for the modem. Just a cool white cable. :)

Rat turds! I just got a notice that the 20" iMac I ordered on May 5 will not be shipping until May 20. Those slackers in the Apple online store inventory distribution must have a bottleneck in the supply chain.

The order status still says "Sent to Manufacturing"--this, together with the "replaced with new product" delay I mentioned before, then ground shipping, probably means a total wait time of at least 3 weeks from order date.

I'm getting very impatient waiting....
