I think he's a arrogant punk but he does get the good gossip.
Well, there are consumer laws about labeling jewelry. They wouldn't be putting gold-plated watches in a jewel case. John Gruber's speculation was that the Edition might be upgradable. I.e. maybe in a year or 2 you can upgrade to the latest insides for $500. That would be plausible, though unprecedented for Apple. Of course, selling a watch is also unprecedented, so who knows what Apple's plans are. We'll find out soon enough, I guess.

He wants people to think he's in the know. And while he does get leaks that are sometimes accurate I don't get the feeling he knows people/culture at Apple say, the way John Gruber or Rene Ritchie do. That's why when Gurman reported on software design VP Greg Christie leaving Apple (and implying Christie was pushed out by Jony Ive) Gruber immediately put up a blog post discrediting his report. Same thing when Gurman claimed Apple redesigned and renamed their Health app because of something he leaked. Gruber was right there calling Gurman out. Gruber also said on Twitter that Gurman's exposé on Apple PR wasn't completely accurate. Gurman's only as good as whatever gets leaked to him.
No reason why you can't buy on-line (at least in the US). They can be securely shipped registered/insured mail. This is done with rare coins and jewelry all the time.

How ofter do you see people complaining here about Apple Watch's battery life, when all we know nothing specific?
Those sites, those people are going to misinform people, hurting sales.

No doubt. These rumors are out of control. People need to get out more. I guess no one was able to get a new Mac Pro shipped to them, either.
It makes sense to secure something in a retail setting that has some value in its raw materials but even then, at least in many areas, there are restrictions to pawning such things - say you defaced it or melted it so it could not be identified.

Worthwhile even if your sarcastic comment is true. Think about it. Apple store may have a decent quantity of them and you could fit a ton in a back pack easily lifting thousands in stock. With some value in the raw materials, a thief may skip the iPhones and go for the watch instead.
I'd like to see what the safes end up being. Could be any sort of locked enclosure. The hype is very strong here.
