I bought a new Apple SuperDrive on Amazon for my 2017 refurb 27" iMac Pro. However, for some reason, it causes a lingering electronic burning smell. In order to troubleshoot this, I unplugged the Super Drive from the USB port, and the burning smell went away. Obviously, it's not because it's burning a DVD.

Why is this happening? I have it plugged directly into a standard USB port on the back of the machine.

Either exchange it or -- better yet -- return it for a refund and buy a 3rd-party CD/DVD/Bluray burner instead.

The Apple superdrive offers nothing exclusive, except for the higher price.
