As we all know, the macbook family's hardware is a LITTLE behind, as for the desktops too. If apple doesn't at least make a good jump in the hardware, drop the prices, etc, they'll lose even more market. I know a good fraction of pc users would like a mac instead, but the machines are costly. Thank god I even got an iMac. Their only good pricing is for the iPhone. I personally am sticking with apple for life. Maybe they could drop the prices a few hundred buckks, or upgrade to better graphics cards and processors. Apple saved intel when they were suffering. If for the next gens they could just do something wonderful, I'd be happy.

This whole statement doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but the bolded part confuses me even more.
I'm fairly sure that the laptops (Macbook/Macbook Pro), are good. I mean, look at the Windows laptops, they don't have a Quad-Core processor in them. They only have Core2Duo, and most don't go about 2.0Ghz. At the price range of the Apple Laptop line, yes they go at about 2.1-2.6Ggz for a Core2Duo, but that's the price of Apple's laptop line.

Same with the OP's post. He said all that negative stuff about the computers, and how Apple's going to lose marketshare because of this. But then he says he's "Apple for life". Not exactly great motivation for Apple to change anything, nor does it prove his point that Apple will soon start losing marketshare.

Did apple save intel? I thought it was more apple saving them selves because the PPC chips couldn't get up to what they wanted to deliver to consumers. Hence the move to intel.
There is no point for a manufacturer in the Apple bracket competing on price at the lower levels.
I am looking forward to the rumoured giant iPod Touch though - although given my previous experiences, I'll leave it until Q1 '10 for the quality to stabilise.

i really don't think apple's hardware right now is that bad. granted, you will always have complainers. sure, it would be nice if the price dropped a little. but apple knows what they are doing
I would agree with twoodcc, the Mac Pro line is awesome, as some of the only computers to use the Nehalem processors, but I suppose we are talking about a consumer as opposed to a professional market. But I think the iMac's are quality too, and with the right upgrades they can be on a par with PC's both on price and performance, I don't think Apple's hardware's bad. I do agree that the price is high and dropping it would be nice but if they do they could risk losing possibly even more of their market share because their percieved quality will go down if they drop the price too much as people might pass it up as they think it's a cheap deal. Whilst it's still an aspirational item to own Apple has a good position businesswise on price.

Prices are fine for the product you get. All they need are computers that fit in the other segments in the market, a small mini-tower, and a netbook.
I doubt Apple will make a netbook. Some articles are saying that about 20-30% of buyers are regretting purchasing netbooks and returning them. The thrust of the reporting is that people have the idea that these are full featured laptops only smaller. When the get them home and find out how underpowered they are the happy bubble pops.
The current laptops are quite nice. I was recently looking at a 17" MBP with matte screen. It was awesome. Much better than my current matte screen. Much better even than the prototype matte screen they showed at MWSF in January.
I'll be replacing my 17" MBP in late fall or early spring, whenever the next gen Intel processors make it to the MBP line. Although we often focus on the processor I'm expecting a whole lot of less obvious improvements. Better GPU, better screen, LED backlit, 500GB 7200 RPM HD, larger memory capacity, better speakers, larger battery capacity, less weight, thinner, better video out for driving an external monitor and who knows what else. OLED would be awesome but I guess that is about two years out.

The netbook market has clearly taken off...they're are selling. Every company out there has one. I, for one, am glad. I don't need tons of mobile power(some do, thats great look too), but I do want something small(and cheap is good too)
All Apple would need to do it take the iBook/PowerBook 12'' design, release that as either a 10'' or 12'' screen with Ion. Not to fast, but not worse then G4 laptops that so many miss here.
Agreed...you look at Mini like computer(Dell has one) Mac Mini and it are very close(Dell has HDMI, but the Mini has a better graphic card and prices are similar). Same thing with all in ones iMac is a good deal. Mac Pro was cheaper then PC equal speced out(this was a while ago, idk how true that still is). Its the lack of a mid range tower that makes people think that the iMac needs to be compared with Core 2 Quad PC towers. And laptop range starting at 999, then you see Dells for 249, people end up comparing models which shouldn't get compared(at least with out looking into their form factors)
The new mac pro's aren't all that. Compared to last year they are stupidly more expensive, and the bench marks show them to be not all that different, and infact, worse untill you get into the higher priced models.
