What is Apple currently offering for a base MacBook Pro 16" 2019 during trade in? Just curious because I see people selling them for $1250 on eBay

I checked the value for a base 16" 2019 early last month ~$1000 trade in value
ouch. glad I listened to my itch for gadgets and traded it in at store on Halloween day. got $1210. needed to ask because I found it odd that Apple would offer the same amount as someone on eBay.

Better to sell it privately. To be honest I don't see why Apple can't offer the market value to their loyal customers who are essentially "trading-in" for a newer model. So reward them. It's not like Apple is struggling in the money department.

I generally keep most of my laptops though. Find I get more value from playing old games on them or something..

See what they are going for on swappa. I find it easier than eBay. Warning though, you will likely get at least one laughable lowball offer.

they're not struggling in the money department because of exactly what you described..... If you want charity go to your local food bank and ask for hand outs.

Majority of the time Apple provides fair (or even HIGHER) value on trade-ins.

Have you ever bought and sold online (Ebay, OfferUp etc.?) Since the pandemic started people have become deadbeats and flake out on deals/sells or are just plain lowballing on prices and requesting refunds. I've been online buying/selling things since 2007 (Ebay and Craigslist and OfferUp most recently) and people were never this SCHITY.

Apple provides a convenience factor. Just walk in an Apple store (if its open) and get store credit or apply it to another device. Easy peasy. ***only downside is that its not cash***

But apple won't request a refund. submit a claim of item not as described or item was not delivered etc.

so yeah Apple is actually a better option for me in some scenarios.

As someone who sells a lot of stuff on eBay you'll lose about 20-25% off the purchase price to fees and shipping. So if they sell for $1250 on eBay a $1000 trade in is about the same.
I would say closer to 15-20% (at least back before managed payments and tax(es) were implemented last year.) I quit selling on Ebay because of both of those reasons. Also had bad selling transactions with "for parts or repair" AS-IS NO REFUND sales that Ebay sided with the buyer and I was held at fault and pretty much had to succumb to the buyers demands, which started getting pretty bad in 2019. I had never experienced buyers like those in my whole selling time on Ebay since 2007, it switched to a buyers market somewhere in 2018-2019. 2020 was the nail in the coffin with managed payments for me.

When I sell something I want to get paid for it, NOW. I'm not going to pay ship off something and get paid later!!!??? What business or company will ship you a product before THEY GET PAID? there's only 1 company that I know of that you won't get charged until you decide to keep the product... and that's AMAZON.... and its only for clothes and shoes.....

No Gracias Amigos.

At $1250 for a laptop I would pay PayPal 3% and Ebay 10% off the total price then anywhere from $12-$20 for shipping a laptop

This is the biggest reason to take a little less and trade it in. One time, I had an iMac I listed on a couple selling sites and got some interesting trade offers (a cord of wood, a gun, 10 oil changes, etc.) and some seriously lowball cash offers. I ended up selling it to a friend for what Apple was allowing for a trade in just to avoid dealing with crazy people.

I honestly think the government has literally put something in the water.

The stark change in people (before the pandemic) was extremely noticeable. probably around 2018-2019 I started getting some pretty SCHITTY buyers/sellers.

Then came the pandemic and SCHITT hit the fan.

People have become unreliable/untrustworthy through online selling platforms. Too many scammers and policy changes(Ebay) that I just haven't been able to deal with/navigate through.

Im seriously considering closing all operations down.

My wife does a lot more online buying and selling than I do, and even she is getting really tired of dealing with crazies and deadbeats. It's a shame, because most people are honest, but the ones who aren't always seem to find their way into nearly every transaction.

And eBay has become a cesspool of scammers. I cancelled my account a few years ago, thanks to really bad policies that hurt sellers.

I have a friend who had an eBay store for years who gave up on it and closed it down just before the pandemic. She did really well selling online, but it reached a point where the stress of it was impacting her health. Sad.

I lived in a nice beach town Manhattan Beach, CA during Pedemic but decided to move in May 2020. I was selling a bunch of stuff and all the buyers showed up to me without any problems. I just handed them the item outside my building. I find that it matters how fast you can be available for the buyer and what area you live in. People tend to trust you if you live in a safe neighborhood. I haven't sold anything on eBay in 15 years because selling in person was faster and hassle free. Again, the neighborhood matters and having a friendly photo on apps like offer up with good rating matter also. But then again I also sold a bunch of stuff through craigslist. But dealing with selling MacBook in person is a hassle. You got to do the whole Starbucks meetup in public thing and they got to test the Mac. These days it will probably be in the outside patio. Was just smoother to go to Apple. 15 min in and out with a new Mac.
