SO I am going to explore trading in my iPhone 12. It has some scratches on the front screen and a small scratch on the aluminum on the bottom bezel - I've included some pictures. I see what they ask has changed and its wording is a bit confusing, "major" scratches, then it mentions just scratches or dents. Clicking yes to any of that knocks either 300 off or anything on the aluminum body it just shows "recycle" which seems ridiculous.

That being said anyone have any experience this year with trading in and having any scratches etc? Is it inspected in the store when you go to pick up your new 13 pro? See pics. tempImageLufYWN.pngtempImageZwCY1v.pngtempImage3IJ22y.png

So I had a deep silver scuff on the frame of my blue 12 in the bottom corner (about 5mm) where it fell off the coffee table during my brief non case phase. I traded my phone in yesterday at the store and it wasn’t even mentioned. He barely even looked over my phone tbh. I can’t see it being an issue but I guess it depends who you get.

Well that’s comforting! Thanks. I guess with how’s busy they are.

I have 2 scratches on the screen and the side from numerous falls ( never used a case). I took it to the Apple store for screen repair and the genius looked and said repair wasn’t necessary, it looked fine.. and would be acceptable at trade in.

I learned my lesson and now have a case in the 13!

I had scratches and I think even a minor crack, that might have been on the frame though when I traded in my 11 Pro last year. Never got charged for anything. You should be fine.

I went to the apple store they said I could get £120 for the iPhone 8 Plus on trade in. It had scratches over the phone. As long as it's not been cracked and all the parts are genuine apple and the warranty or water damage has occurred it will be perfect for trade in. It must be in out of the box condition if its a super deep scratch effecting the screen they said I would only get £30 for it LOL. But you will be perfectly fine just make sure the phone has not been opened by 3rd party and if it has been only by an Authorised Apple Reseller with genuine parts

They really are just looking for cracks on the front or back glass

I wonder if there is less scrutiny when trading it in in the store when you buy a new phone versus mailing it in.

There may be an advantage with trading in at a store. If there is a problem with mail-in it is your word against theirs. With a store trade-in you can say that they looked at it and it was fine if there is a problem.

Probably. When you mail it in, that’s probably that persons sole job. At the store, they barely look at the phone.
