I went to the Mac trade-in page to find out how much my 2023 M2 Pro 12/19 16" MBP 32gb, 1tb would get:

https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in

It asked me several questions including how much storage (SSD) it has, but it did not ask how much memory (RAM) it has. Apparently, Apple will pay the same price for 16gb or 32gb. o_O

I sure wish that when I bought it that the 32gb was the same price as 16gb because I could have gotten 32gb for no additional charge. I had to pay $400 extra for it though.

Also, it asked my serial number so Apple must already know my memory, storage, etc. So, why did it even ask about how much storage I have? And it also asked if it is 14" or 16".

Yuuup, this is pretty common and as someone who trades in fairly often I only buy base models because of this.

I also found that the amount of RAM does not affect the trade-in cost at least for M3 Pro. So if I buy M4 Pro 48GB, it will end up the same trade-in cost as M4 Pro 24GB? In this case, if I may need more than 24GB, is it better to buy the M4 Max base model with 36GB RAM?
