apple tv 2 and mb

well as you know you need your computer on in order for the apple tv to gain access to your files. tho i do leave my macbook on but with the lid closed. is there a way to keep certain things running while the lid down? like keep wifi and itunes running only (for power saving)

No, but you can keep the MB running with the lid closed via InsomniaX or clamshell mode.
