Wanted to purchase an apple tv setup. But the prices on ebay for the apple tv 2 are crazy expensive. Should I just go with the apple tv 3? I don't use netflix and have tons of movies that I have burned onto my hardrive and slowly converting to upload into itunes. I really like the XBMC, but not too familiar with the other options of a jailbroken apple tv 2. Are you able to actually watch live tv or is it just recorded episodes?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

OK.

Apple TV 2 prices are expensive because they can still be Jailbroken. At the moment with ATV3's this is not possible, and there is no roadmap in place or timescale of when this might be achieved.

Which ATV you go with depends on how to intend to use it. With the ATV2, once Jailbroken you can play avi's through XMBC or Plex, so you won't have to convert all the files to iTunes compatible files. You can also watch live TV, but these streams aren't really legal (in the UK you can get Sky Sports etc). However it can be done. You can also get access to a lot of 'movies' to stream..
