Apple TV 2 plus iTunes 10.4 - Can't turn off iMac screen

I upgraded to Lion yesterday, then installed iTunes 10.4. Now, whenever the Apple TV 2 is playing anything (video or audio streamed from the iMac) I cannot get the iMac to keep its screen turned off.

I press CTRL-Shift-Eject and the screen goes off, but comes back on within a few seconds. If I stop the Apple TV from playing and turn the iMac screen off, it stays off. But if I start playing content on the Apple TV at any point then the iMac will come back to life within a few seconds.

I'm only turning the screen off, not attempting to put the iMac into sleep mode or anything. This has worked since I got the Apple TV last November with no troubles, it is only doing this since yesterday.

Any suggestions? :confused:
 
Check and make sure that your Apple remote isn't paired with your iMac. The upgrade to Lion may have reset this setting which, by default (at least in Snow Leopard), pairs the remote with the iMac.

Good thought, and I did find that the remote was controlling the iMac as well. But I disabled the remote via Candelair, and the problem still exists.
 
Have the same problem on my iMac, had to revert back to iTunes 10.3.1. Hope an update is coming asap.

It's funny, I don't want to wish my problem on others, but I'm also glad not to be alone with it! Thanks for posting this, I'll make sure I bug report it and hopefully Apple will get it fixed!

I understand what you mean, eradicates issue with your own machine/setup.
 
I'm also having this problem, and can't seem to find out how to revert back to 10.3.1. Trying to restore with Time Machine tells me I can't modify iTunes because it's a part of OS X. Any help?

Okay how I did it was:

Install app cleaner 2.0 beta. Google it
Uninstall iTunes via that. May have to check preferences in app cleaner to allow you to remove system apps.
Once you have done this. Reinstall iTunes via time machine backup.
You may have to go to your ITunes library folder and replace the new iTunes library ".itl" file with the old one which should be in the "previous iTunes library folder" Rename and replace.

Hope it works out.

I think it worked - thanks! Hopefully it will solve the iMac display issue.
 
I am having this issue, too. Don't really want to revert to an older version of iTunes...I just hope Apple fixes this quickly.

I was wondering why I kept waking up to my iMac still on a screensaver since upgrading to Lion
 
So the take home message is IF you upgrade to Lion AND you use Apple TV DON'T upgrade to iTunes for Lion just yet. But if you do the stuff plays on your TV fine, you just cannot make it not play on the iMac right?

Seems to have fixed my problem. Also, I was having an issue with video playlists not going to the next video with iTunes 10.4 and Apple TV 2. Reverting to iTunes 10.3.1 also fixed this problem.

I don't think this has anything to do with Lion. I installed the newest iTunes this morning on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and I have my screen waking up whenever iTunes is asked to deliver files (to another iTunes, not just to an Apple TV).

I'm not sure why you think people are having problems playing back content.

it Has Everything to do with Lion, Its Documented and Being Looked into by Apple this time.

This is all i can say at this time.

Just because you don't have the problem, consider others that do.
 
I've been using iTunes 10.5 since it was released trough the developer channel and I have no problem whatsoever in Snow Leopard, but installing Lion has come with this issue, altough it seems to be the home sharing feature too, I was watching some TV Shows in my iPad from my iMac, and the screen just come turning on

I suggest you reread my original post.

I *do* have the problem. I'm *not* running Lion. In other words, it doesn't look as much like a Lion problem as it does an iTunes problem.

Downgrade iTunes to 10.3

Could you please let me know how you downgraded to iTunes 10.3 I don't have an installer :( and my iMac is keeping me up at night while others are streaming from it to an Apple TV!!
 
Hi guys having the same problem as the rest of you and registered because I have found a work around of sorts.
This won't be appropriate for everyone but works for me with my setup.
Have found that if I start the streaming from the iMac I don't get the issue of the screen coming back on.
So start playing the movie in iTunes then click the AirPlay button and choose to send it to apple tv.
Works for me at least. Can pause play etc with the remote through apple tv.
Seems that as long as it's iTunes that initiates the streaming the screen issue doesn't come up.

Like I said not going to be a solution for everyone but maybe for some of you until a proper solution is delivered by apple.
 
seems to have fixed it for me! my work-around was a black screen saver but now I can save some energy again. haven't tested heavily, but I was watching a tv-show and the screen stayed off. so happy :)
