It appears you can get a Apple Tv 2 for $80 off the Apple refurb store in Australia. I was wondering what firmwares are jailbreakable? As well do you think I should get the new one instead? Further I am in Australia, any benefits? I know netflix won't work, but can I use VPN to get around this?

Thank you

Edit: With the whole Ice films app down due to megaupload is there any other alternatives?

Great questions.

The only difference to a normal user between the new and old Apple TV is 1080p. If you're okay with 720p, then stick with the ATV2. I am.

Sorry I don't have any help with the VPN thing, but I do know that all firmwares but the current one are jailbreak-able as I have mine jailbroken. I feel like there's a location spoofer available for use with Netflix or MLB.tv. Not sure though.

Thank you for your reply! The biggest difference was yeah the 720P vs 1080P, but given that a refurb old one is 79 and a new one is 109 doesn't seems that big of difference. I suppose any problems down the road with it Apple would probably replace it with the newer one. The other plus is the JB.

One other question. Can I use my Time Capsule to Stream my media from it on to the Apple Tv?

Bump, Can anyone also tell me which firmware are untethered jailbreakable?

Thank you

there is not way to know what firmware does it have, if it is 4.4.4 or older yes you can JB it, if it comes with the most recent one 5, then no It cannot be jailbreak at this time.

Thank you, that clears up things. Hoping I can get one with 4.4.4, otherwise will just return it. Would be useless otherwise.

I guess I was under the impression that you could no longer jailbreak 4.4.4 since it had to go out to Apple's servers for signing or something like that. Since they updated to the newest firmware, they would no longer be signing 4.4.4.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
