Ok so i decided to go with the apple tv over the WD live hub. I got it from Best buy came home set everything up netflix youtube etc. so after some surfing see a video where you can update firmware. My apple tv was on 4.1.1 so i wanted to upgrade got the cord plugged it in restore started. 8 hours has went by and i call apple and they tell me my 1 day old apple tv is bricked. Anyone else have an issue like this?

yes when i do it starts like normal gets to around 98% and stops not sure what happened apple wasn't sure either.

Well if Apple told you "it was bricked," then take it to an applestore and get it fixed or replaced.....

Not sure what you are posting on here for ?

Wow really if you don't have anything to say the sthu i am posting on here to see if anyone else had the issue that was plainly stated in the first post thanks for your non input though ;)

The software version 4.1.1 is current. If your in the Settings>General>About screen keep pressing the select button on the remote you will see that the OS Build is 4.2.1. As far as I know iOS4.3 for ATV2 is not released but there might be a beta version floating around.

You should be doing the restore with the micro USB cable plugged in and not wireless. If you can't restore in iTunes which is basically a factory reset than the obvious answer is to take it back to Best Buy and get a replacement.

yeah i am going to tomorrow at work till 8am I am just curious on why it has done what it is done. I was using micro usb i did everything correctly i just don't know what went on if it was something i did (doubt it) but just was making sure. thanks for the helpful reply.

No offense intended, but if you had done everything correctly, it would work. As long as you start with the assumtion that you didn't do anything wrong, you can't solve the mistake :) Good luck.

Well lets see here im pretty knowledgeable with apple products seeing as most of my electronics are apple 27in imac to a macbook unibody to iphone4 to airport express and ipad and now apple tv. What kind of rocket science is there to upgrading apple tv firmware i mean it's pretty straight forward not much to screw up. So when i say i did everything correctly i did no disrespect on my part just sayin.

Did you have the power cord connected at the same time as the micro USB when restoring?

Also please keep the thread updated when find out what went wrong. Might be helpful to others.

Nope i did not have it plugged in just had the micro usb. I am taking it back to best buy today and getting a new one. I am not messing with it anymore i have done everything i know how to do to restore it and get it working and nada. hard to say what the problem was apple rep said it was bricked and if it bricked because i was running a restore apple can figure it out. lol thanks for all the helpful responses.

Hopefully your new one will work for you. It is a pain when things like this happen but it is nice to be able to get a new one with minimal delay. I am looking forward to ios 4.3 to come out friday. Were you trying to update to a bata or just update to 4.2?

just update to 4.2 i eventually will jailbreak it but for now netflix and youtube and airplay work good lol. what will 4.3 bring do you know ?
