Apple TV 3 Storage?

I have the newest apple tv and have for a while. I always just buy the movies/tv shows directly from the apple tv, and I was wondering where these are actually stored? Obviously it is in some kind of cloud, but is the storage unlimited?

edit: It cannot be stored in your icloud b.c I have well of 30gb of movies/tv shows.

They are stored in Apples iCloud. That's why people get upset when something they bought is no longer available because the studios revoke the right of Apple to have a movie in their system. You really don't buy the movie...you buy the right to view the movie as long as it is on Apples servers.

ahhh, so basically to be on the safe side I should download them on my computer as well b.c it could be 1 year/ 6 years/ 2 days....who knows. What happens if they remove a movie that I "bought" before I download it....would apple give me my money back or just be like sorry? I would be kind of upset if i paid $19.99 and I could no longer have access to the movie.

I think in that case, you'd be screwed and you'd have to wait until it's available again, whenever (or if ever) that would be.

If you have a lot of movies to worry about, then buy an external hard drive with however much space you need and download all the movies you've bought to it.

Yes, that's what you should do to be safe. Also, when available I rent instead of buy. There really aren't that many movies I need to own long term. I can rent maybe 3 times and still be cheaper than a purchase. But for those that I really want to keep around, like LOTR, I buy. Also factor in the HDD cost of storing lots of movies I will probably never go back and watch.

Apple is good about giving credits and I am pretty sure, that if the situation you describe occurred (paid before able to watch), they would credit you if you contacted them and asked for one.

I see that now. It made sense to buy them and keep them in Apple's cloud before I knew they could possibly be removed.

Yep, you should see what is stored in the cloud as a perpetual lease that may be removed at any time Apple/the content rights holder decides they feel like it.

You have to Convert your video from m4v to avi format and then try to burn it to a dvd. I am sure this will process will help you to burn it to a dvd.

I have a 2tb external hard drive where I point my iTunes preferences (under advanced). This stores all my movies and music on a much larger hard drive than my computer. It works incredibly well and I have 130+ movies.

When you purchase a movie, I believe it is available in the cloud and available in your "Purchases" for download again. When using the cloud, be aware that not all movie companies support it. There is a small amount of memory in the Apple TV device to temporarily store the content. This way you can rewatch a movie or two without downloading again. I recommend to download the movie to iTunes to some hard drive first.

I buy movies first in iTunes so that it gets stored on my external hard drive and then streams to my TV. I use the cloud only when I am too lazy to turn my PC on.

This being said, I love my Apple TV 3 with this configuration and you can build quite a nice library.
