Apple TV (3rd gen) and 5 GHz

I have an Apple TV (3rd gen) and an Airport Extreme (5th gen), I have a separate network created on the extreme for 5 GHz devices, my MacBook Air and iPhone 5 are both connecting at rates of 150+ mb/s..

When I check the Apple TV however it is connecting at 65 mb/s..

What am I doing wrong? is the Apple TV not equipped for 5 GHz frequency?

IIRC (and I may not), the two devices you mention have MIMO antenna technology built into them, not sure if the ATV3 does.

In any case, your stated transfer rate exceeds any needed transfer rate by a stupendous margin, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I get occasional stuttering when mirroring my MacBook Air to the Apple TV, I use it for watching movies and TV so optimum bandwidth regards to the Apple TV would be nice..

For ATV users, I highly recommend configuring QOS on your Access Point. Am not familiar with the airport extreme so can't comment there.

QOS on your AP allows u to have better control of all the devices that are competing for WIFI access. Basically video streams can have its own carpool lane and everybody else has to wait.

65mb/s is plenty and is not the source of your stuttering.
