I'm looking to jailbreak my AppleTV so that I can play mkv files through XBMC. For the past few months, I've been converting my mkv files to MP4 format with MKVTools to play on the ATV2 and it's getting annoying. I know there were problems with XMBC playing on ATV2 before but I wanted to know if those problems have been fixed. Can someone recommend an untethered jailbreak to use so that I can get XBMC on my ATV2? Thanks!!

Also, are there any current problems with XBMC on ATV2?

There are problems but whether they will affect you or not depends on a few different factors (os, content, etc.). I would check out this thread as a starting point:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=91581

There is a separate thread for installing the "nightly" versions of XBMC which can resolve some of the issues but can could also introduce new issues. I am running 4.2.1 (version just before the introduction of Netflix, MLB) with the official Dharma 10.1 release and have no problems with my content - but I have mostly SD stuff. I did try 4.2.2 but had lots of problems with XBMC running on that OS version and ended up downgrading.

I did PwnageTool RC6 (OSX 10.6) and other than doing a nonstandard JB technique (e.g., leaving the cord plugged while it acquired DFU mode) it was pretty straightforward. My ATV2 was running 4.2.2.

When I first installed XBMC it tended to be kind of clunky and at times crashed when I tried playing mp4 files. Problem fixed when I installed a nightly build about a couple weeks ago, now it works very well.

One issue I haven't been able to fix is the scraper for TV shows. Movie scraper works well.

Can someone show me where to get the latest Nightly build for XBMC?

Also, does everything else work properly? Netflix? streaming MP4s through iTunes?

What is scraping..

The link that was replied to you didn't work lol. but basically it's where your media library is built based on the files. It reads the metadata or even just the filename is 'scrapes' data from the internet to give you poster art, synopsis, cast, etc...
