I have a Sony Bravia UHD HDR10 TV with Android 7.0 and all apps that come with it, Amazon Video included (which is just terrible in terms of performances, though). Also I have an Yamaha RX-v483 supporting up to Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA 5.1, with 4K HDR/DV HDMI passthrough. I am also a Mac user.
These are the apps I use the most, with the issues I may have:
What else could justify a €200 cost? TV App isn't available but I'd love to have it even if only for a couple of apps. Amazon Video and maybe Infuse? Would it work changing the ATV language to English? How's iTunes in Italy? Any other plus? I am not interested in gaming, since I have a PS4 (base) for it.
Any opinion is welcome!
These are the apps I use the most, with the issues I may have:
- TIMvision: is there a plan from TIM to have ported to ATV?
- Amazon Video: It's currently a mess on Sony Bravia. Audio stuttering, VO out of sync and so on.
- Netflix (I subscribe once in a while)
- Kodi/Plex for LAN streaming: Kodi is too heavy and Plex far too often converts the video when there is no need to. The 100Mbps interface is just right to stream 4K HDR content (I have some demo videos with a bitrate up to 65Mbps and they show fine)
- YouTube: 4K is supported. No HDR, yet. It's my understanding on ATV 4K the situation is even worse
