I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing some, let's call it "stickiness" with their Apple TV menu. I find the device is much slower to respond these days then it was when I first bought it. If I reset the device to default and hook it up again, will I need to download all the firmware updates again. I have an extensive movie and TV show collection, but none of that is stored on the device so that should not be a factor.

Apple TV a little slow to respond these days ...

Don't bother with a restore/reload. I have the same issue, and decided I would try that a couple of weeks ago. It didn't make any difference.
I think it is noticeably slower to respond since the last software update. It is especially slow when you first start using it after a long period of inactivity. I don't know if it sleeps during that time, and then wake up and has a lot of processing to catch up on, or what.
Incidentally I did verify that after the reset (which does take it back the the first SW release), it was MUCH faster than it is after everything is updated.
Defrag or SSD Mod
I have had several people tell me that when they took the HD out, put it in an enclosure and analyzed it with iDefrag on their Macs that it showed to have data spread across the whole drive (uncompacted to hell) and showed red on almost the whole thing (extreme fragmentation). They said it ran better than it ever has (even new with 1.0) after they optimized it. I've also heard that the 32gb pata ssd you can get on amazon for less than $100 makes it wicked fast as well (and with an ssd you don't even have to worry whether theres fragmentation).

Mine's been terrible. Almost every time i go to watch a movie it will tell me "This format is not recognized", which is fixed by an iTunes restart. And if that doesn't happen, there's the video skipping when streaming, or altogether freezing requiring a restart. I'm certainly not proud of my AppleTV, and really really hope Apple releases updates to fix these issues.
