I understand the obvious financial reasons, but have to question whether we will ever see anything like this.

My linksys router is on its way out and I went and checked out the AirPort Extreme and liked how you could network a hard drive to it for backup. That obviously led me to the Time Capsule and then to the Apple TV.

That would be the shiznit. A unit with Apple TV capabilities, wireless and storage all in one. Why not?
 
People are still getting used to the idea of a "home server", and this box would cost at least $600-700 with a couple terabytes of storage. Asking someone to plop down that much cash and having them realize there's no "computer" to play on would be difficult to market. Of course, if anyone's in the right place to do such a thing (eventually), Apple is.

[edit] Exactly what I was thinking when I bought my ATV last week, though. Great purchase, BTW.
