Hi all. Been looking for a while and having trouble finding a definitive answer. I am thinking of buying an Apple TV along with an Airport Extreme router. I want to attach an external drive to the AEBS, store videos (or an entire iTunes library) on it, and use the Apple TV to stream those videos to my TV. Can this work without having some computer turned on hosting the iTunes library? Thank you for any help.

No. Apple TV needs and Itunes account to either 1. Sync the content to the ATV (and with 120G...its doubtful this will work for you, or 2. stream.

If you choose to stream, and itunes account must be running for the atv to stream from. You can play anything that is synced to the ATV HD without the itunes account running, but you still need an itunes account to sync items to and off of the ATV.

Thanks for the info...that's about as clear as it gets :)

That's too bad though. Streaming off the AirDisk seems rather pointless then since I'm not sharing my library with others on the network. Oh well
