I just got an Apple Tv and have been setting it up. I also have a iPhone 4s and an iPad 2 both using the latest iOS 5 software.

I have my Apple tv connected to my Linksys wireless router and have been using Netflix, iTunes music, viewing my photos and photo stream, etc. So I feel home sharing is working correctly.

But one of the things I want to do is play my games from my iPad or phone on my tv. But the Air play icon never shows up to enable it. My iPad and iPhone both use the same home wireless network as the Apple tv. In fact I can use Remote on my iPad and iPhone to control the Apple tv no problem. I just can not get the AirPlay to start the mirroring.

I have reviewed Apples trouble shooting guide and feel it is all set up correctly.

Any ideas how to get it going?

Thanks in advance

Did you double click the home button, swipe left and turn it on? It's not always on and doesn't come on automatically.

My apologies.... I did do that and the AirPlay icon does not show up.

I did just try running the YouTube app and I was able to run a video mirrored on my tv set. But the double clicking on the home button and scrolling to the right to find the airplay icon, still does not show it

This is weird.... LOL

If I run a game such as Angry birds, the music from the game plays through the tv but the game does not show up on the tv screen. Same with Mahjong and Tron.

Also, on my PC iTunes, the Apple TV does not show up in the devices. I would think it would.

double tap home button, swipe to the airplay icon, set it to apple tv and turn mirroring on and angry birds will mirror to the screen

Just had same problem. Apple tv needs to be updated with latest software, go to settings in apple tv and update software then everything will work correctly.

@shandyman.... As I said above. I have tried that and the AirPlay icon never does show up. Even though some apps it works just fine.

I think the games I have so far are not AirPlay enabled by the developers perhaps.

If I do itunes on my iPad or iPhone it works just fine. If I do any kind of video like YouTube, they play just fine.

@menhel ... i do have the latest Apple TV software at 4.4.4 it actually prompted me to do an update.

Still funny the AirPlay icon does not show up after you hit the home button twice.

double tap
Swipe right once for play controls and rotation lock

This is what you're looking for....that little icon towards the right with the arrow pointing up in the square.
