I am considering getting apple tv but I'm concerned my internet connection is too slow. I believe I'm getting 1.5 Mbps download. I've got the next to slowest dsl AT&T offers, but it's the fasted available where I live. Opinions?

I use DSL, and have no issues, but 1.5 is pretty slow...it really depends how you want to primarily use the ATV2

I have 1.5 Mb DSL and my AppleTV works fine. Never tried buying/renting a movie, but I do use Netflix. Not HD, but acceptable.

Thanks guys. I might give it a try. I'm hoping I can get faster broadband here, but I'm making do for now. Only had dsl for about four years.

We went unplugged and got rid of satellite. I upped my DSL connection from 1.5 to 10 and I also bought a whole house DSL splitter and ran dedicated CAT5 to where my modem plugs into. "Real World" speeds are around 7 on a good day. Once it gets a bit warmer I am going to test what the speed is coming in BEFORE it goes into the splitter outside. If I see anything less than 10, I am going to ask my provider for a boost because I am paying for 10.

Try anything to get that speed up!

I could get a faster download speed through satellite, but it costs an arm and a leg. 30 minutes from my house I could get cable internet that's extremely fast. I guess living in the woods does have some negatives.

Yeah, running Apple TV via the satellite will never be smooth, it would be choppy. Not recommended!

I have the same plan as you with AT&T. If you want to download a film from Apple, do it overnight since it takes a few hours. Netflix works great as an immediate streaming.

I think I'll wait until I can get a faster connection here. Waiting overnight is a bit long for me. Most of our movies are impulse buys.
