Hello,

I currently have my AppleTV syncing music only from iTunes. I've enabled the USB port on the back of it, and have an external drive connected to it which holds all my video. I use ATVFiles to access these files, use MacFusion to write directly to the external HD wirelessly, and it's all working perfectly =]:

My external HD, however, is only 500GB and is quickly filling up.

I have a 2TB Time Capsule that I'm using as my wireless router, and for my Time Machine backups. Using a usb hub, I would like to:

-Connect my 2TB Time Capsule to my AppleTV, so it behaves the way my 500GB external HD does now: stores my media, is accessible wirelessly, but has a much larger storage capacity.

-Connect my 500GB external HD to the Time Capsule, so I can use it as my Time Machine backup drive.

I'd be quite happy the buy a male/male usb cable to try this out, but for the life of me cannot find one anywhere but online, overseas. Before I go ahead and order the cable, I was wondering if anyone could confirm the validity of this theoretical setup?

Thanks in advance =]:

I would say give it a shot if you have the Time Capsule and TV and let us know how it goes!

It won't work. The Time Capsule wasn't designed to function as a stand-alone hard drive.

And the only purposes I've seen USB type A male to male used for are transfer kits (from Belkin that copy files between two PCs which contain additional circuitry), firmware updates (for specialized devices) and to connect extension cables.

USB requires a host and a recipient device. In this case, you would have two host devices and without additional circuitry it won't work.

I think you would have better luck trying to access your Time Capsule via AFP or SAMBA through the Apple TV.

Actually, I've just thought of something else. I'm rather unsure about this, however. Would the AppleTV recognise the Time Capsule if I were to use an Ethernet cable to connect them? And if so, would I connect to the TC using it's WAN port, or one of the three other ones?

In the meantime, I'll check out SAMBA =]:
