If I change the channel (i.e. from HDMI to DTV) then switch it back to HDMI for my Apple TV, the screen just stays blank. The light is on so the Apple TV is on, and it flickers when I press a button on the remote.

But I can't get anything to appear on the screen - I have to keep pressing buttons (holding play to turn it off and on again works sometimes). This is a real pain.

Everything works perfectly, it is just when I change the channel or turn the TV off I have a hard time getting the Apple TV to come on again.

Anyone any ideas how to fix this? Or is this a widely known problem (couldn't see anything..)?

This sounds like the "HDMI Switching" problem a lot of people on the forum have experienced.

The best (and only) solution appears to be putting your Apple TV to sleep before switching off your TV. Some TVs have problems negotiating the handshake required with HDMI, and the Apple TV seems to be a bit of an issue for some.

Just be glad the handshake isn't causing your Apple TV to reset.

Ahh ok.

Would using component video prevent the problem?
