I have a room in which I DO NOT want a TV but I do want music and a digital picture frame. Thought about a Mac Mini or small PC but after looking into the ATV it may be my cheapest solution. My desire is to get ATV 160, a nice home theater speaker system with its own amp and a small 15 or 17in LCD. I purposefully want a 4:3 LCD because last time I checked my DSLR doesn't take pictures in 16:9.

But...

Is it possible to connect the ATV to an LCD that only has VGA? Does ATV require a widescreen LCD?

:apple:TV requires a 16:9 HDTV or EDTV. There are hacks however to get around this. And I would suggest getting your :apple:TV set up to work on the 4:3 screen first and see how you like Apple's settings before dropping another $30 on the product mentioned above. Of course you can download the trial.

Good luck!

EDIT: wait, VGA? From the Apple website "Widescreen (16 by 9) enhanced-definition or high-definition television with an HDMI, DVI, or component video input port"
