What do you think? Do you think Apple will just take the same attitude to all the iPhone hacks as they did with the Apple TV, or will they take a more Sony approach and stop all the hacks.

Also, I think Apple may be holding back on the update untill the iPhone gets unlocked, so they can stop it from working, however I hope they are just gonna let us do whatever we want with our iPhones, even if they do try and stop unlocking, they should at least let us change icons etc.

There's a variable with the iPhone that might make Apple act differently than they usually do: AT&T. Once hacks start to go against the AT&T/Apple business sharing model then I see Apple closing them down, just like they have in the past to close down holes in things like the iTunes DRM.

I think people hacking custom ringtones etc will be tolerated, even ignored, but as soon as someone comes up with a way to unlock the iPhone, I would expect Apple to change the iPhones firmware to get around it.

That said, at some point Apple will have to start selling unlocked iPhones, after all some European countries make it illegal to lock phones to a single carrier.

Thats what I thought about the unlocking and you do have a point there about some countries making it illegal to sell unlocked phones because I know Belgium does that. So we can all just get out iPhones from Belgium now lol.
