I thought I'd invest in an Apple TV sometime in January as it's only £99~ and I like the idea of being able to keep films, TV shows and music on my computer and being able to stream them onto a television to watch in comfort.

I'm currently living at home at the moment until I move out for university so I have a question. The television I would be using is not a HD TV. It was brought about 6 months before HD TVs took off so we were a bit unlucky in that respect, but it does the job and has a decent picture. It's a JVC AV32P10EK I believe. Sadly I'm not much of a TV guru and can only provide you with my rather basic knowledge of televisions. The ports at the back of the television are the White, Yellow and Red ones, not the Green, Blue and Red set. I apologise for my rather amatuer description but will I still be able to use Apple TV on this television?

Sorry but you CANNOT use any generation of Apple TV with a non HD tv... It needs HDMI or COMPONENT connections (1st Gen) and the yellow, red and white you describe is SD COMPOSITE connections.

The only way to get Apple TV to work with a non HD tv would be to buy a third party solution that costs about £200.

I see. Well I will take that advice and postpone the purchase until I get round to buying myself a HD TV for myself. Thanks for your help. :)

if you "jailbreak" the older one the composite hack works fine, I had my 2nd Apple TV 1G connected to an old 27" CRT tv that way while I was waiting for Santa to bring my new bedroom TV.
