Hi

I own a new iMac with a Apple TV. I have a 2Wire DRL router model #2700HG-E

This works on my work PC that is also hooked up to the 2Wire DSL router.

The problem is that it recognizes the 2Wire device as a password protected wireless network, but it say it cannot find the internet.

I tried connecting to the internet with the Airport mac feature and it said an error "AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet."

This may the problem with the Apple TV as well.

Can someone help? Thanks in advance!

I am by no means an expert on network problems, but I have seen this when the router is not assigning the correct IP addresses to the devices. Check if the IP address of the devices are the same as the router. For example in my case the router has been 192.168.1.1 and the computer some totally different. Your competer should be something like 192.168.1.# . Have you tried using DHCP? The way I usually trouble shoot is turning off all security protection and make the network open. Get the IP addresses assigned and everything working properly and then turn your security back on.

Good luck

Yes, your AppleTV has not received an IP address from your router.

Either ensure DHCP is enabled on your router and that there are enough IP addresses in the DHCP pool, or manually configure a valid IP address on your AppleTV.

Power-cycle your router.

Also try changing wireless channel of your router. Some channels cause issues with devices. I can't use Channel 10 because my Apple TV won't connect. Or channel 8, because my flatmate's laptop won't work on the network.

Currently using Channel 9 without problems.
