Apple TV Content Formats

I haven't bought the apple tv yet but I'm very interested. I understand most programs are SD. That being said, is all SD content widescreen (all 16:9 not 4:3)?

Also, on a widescreen tv are there bars at the top and bottom on any content on any SD or HD Content as some DVD's do instead of filling the complete screen?
