Apple Tv does not appear in itunes

I have just purchased a new atv after my last one bit the dust in just 13 months!! with no help from apple to replace it. I have set the new unit up correctly, it has found my wireless network, but the device does not appear in itunes! has anyone any idea what to do next, also in the preferences the apple tv does not show in the atv box.

Have you tried updating the ATV software? Make sure that you're running the latest version. I don't know if the software/firmware that ships with ATV is up-to-date.

You need to do it manually first from the Apple TV go to Settings then Computers. There should be an option to add a computer. The Apple TV should then show in iTunes. You will need to enter the passcode given on the Apple TV.
