Movies to Digital & stored to play on TV

OK.... I was not sue where to put this thread so ill drop it here....

I want to use HandBrake to convert my DVD collection and store them on ? so i can then replay them on my TV. This way I am not killing the DVD's and ill have a perfect digital copy forever. I probably need a terabyte worth of storage.

I used a ? mark above as i am not sure what to use for a storage unit. What will work and what's the best way to do this ?

I am currently working through my 300+ DVD's now that Handbrake will rip the 5.1 with it. Here's my setup:

-Windows box in office closet running XP + Itunes with 1.5 TB RAID 5 (plan on upping it as needed)
-I use AnyDVD to rip DVD's until I have about 10 ready to process.
-queue 5 rips on Handbrake on my iMac and 5 on the Windows box and let them encode.

rinse and repeat.

The nice thing about using the windows box is I store my itunes library on it and share it with the iMac so everything has access to the same library. Works fantastic. Next up is working out how to get my Blu-ray and HD-DVDs on it and then I can really store my store all my discs and have 1 place to access everything. BTW I have 127 movies ripped so far and it's taking up 317 gigs of space so do the math for how many movies you have but that's an average of about 2.5 gigs a movie.

The Apple TV comes with a built-in hard drive. Either 40GB or 160GB. You cannot add any more storage to the actual device (the USB port is purely for service). People have opened their Apple TV's up and replaced the hard drive, but this void's your warranty.

However, if your iTunes is open and you have a lot more stuff on your Mac, then Apple TV will stream this from your Mac to your TV.

150GB (formatted) works out at about 20 DVD's. But, if you have your Mac running, then you can pretty much have a Terabyte of storage. Just means you have to stream it to your Apple TV.

I have 500+ movies so getting them converted and off the book shelves and into storage will be great...

and again streaming it to the TV is the key to it working how I want.

Yeah the streaming works great (Wife loves it and it always impresses company to show having my collection with boxart and descriptions all at a simple to browse menu).I have wired the whole house so I am using ethernet but previously I had been doing it over wireless and it worked equally as well.

Oh I forgot I also use MetaX to tag and apply all the box art and descriptions. It's awesome!
