Apple TV help - some movies "jitter" during playback?

Hello all, New to the forums... be gentle!

I've been using an Apple TV for about 7 months now - and love it so far. Earlier this summer I started using Boxee and downloading some torrents. What I've found is that some movies downloaded appear to have an annoying "jitter" during playback through the ATV. These same files will play fine through VLC or Boxee on my laptop - but are unwatchable on my TV. Not ALL files do this mind you, and none that I rip myself using Handbrake do.

I've tried streaming them from my ReadyNAS, copying them to the ATV via SFTP, as well as converting them to m4p using Handbrake and uploading them through iTunes to watch through the standard interface - no luck on all accounts. I can't find any "common thread" so far (though I'm a newb to the many flavors of video files and settings) amongst the files - it doesn't seem related to file size.

It's driving me crazy. Has anyone seen this? Any suggestions on what I can check?

There are different h264 features that the video
could be using, the atv doesn't handle all of these that well causing jitter. Your best bet is to use handbrake to reencode the movie using the atv preset.

That was one of the first things I tried (re-encoding the movies using Handbrake) - no luck.

I'm not sure if it's a framerate issue, a frame size/ratio issue. I'm just stuck... hoping someone had ran across this before.

Did you ever find a solution to this. I have the exact same problem and have been trying various re-encoding configurations to no avail.

OK..I did some experimenting and learned a few things concerning this problem. All of my avi movies that exhibited the jitter problem were encoded at 25fps. All of my avi movies that played smoothly were encoded at 24fps. I took one of the movies and re-encoded it at 24fps with Handbrake. It was big improvement. There were still some minute frame corrections but it was much better.

Any change in your television? My Sony Bravia has an option, CineMotion, that makes 25 fps videos jitter.

No...I have a Bravia tv also with the Cine Motion setting. It's set on standard with a few tweaks in color etc. I've never used the cine motion.

I would verify that CineMotion is set to "off" and see if that corrects your 25fps jitters. It corrected mine.
