Ok, so I've had my Apple TV for almost a year now. Downloaded the Take 2 update & t took me about 2 days to finally get logged into the iTunes store directly from the box.

I just purchased a second refurbed ATV for my son & have been trying to get logged into the iTunes store for over a week with no luck. Any content purchased from iTunes will not play & comes up with the not Authorized message. Called Apple & they said that all they could suggest was Rebooting, Restoring or logging out & in a few times. I've even unauthorized & authorized my iTunes Mac a couple of times. None of which has worked.

I'm using my .Mac account to login. On iTunes I use simply the first part of my .Mac email address without the @mac.com. I've tried signing in through his ATV with both my full .Mac email address as well as without the @mac.com.

Why does my ATV work but not his? It's getting online & able to view trailers but no purchase ability & no playback. Has anyone gotten around this? Sorry if this is a double poast, I couldn't find a solution anywhere.

Have you tried re-registering your Apple TV-iTunes connection?

In essence, if you tell Apple TV to forget about the Mac to which you'd normally connect, and then re-establish that Mac as the "sync" computer, it will give you a new 5 digit connection number. Once it re-connects to your Mac, it is my understanding that your Mac should authorize the Apple TV.

I've actually tried that quite a few times with no luck.

I am also having this issue -- my new Apple TV arrived this week.

I have tried the deauthorize/reauthorize thing multiple times. I have tried resetting the Apple TV (soft reset and factory reset), and it still continues.

If I log off directly on the Apple TV, it will not log back on to the ITMS. Very frustrating.

I'm also experiencing another issue: YouTube will not connect -- but other online content will (podcasts and movie trailers work fine).

I do have an aol email address used for this account -- but it is set up as a Apple account, not as aol.

I've opened a case with Apple iTunes support -- but they just said to try the same things. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon at the genius bar...

Any other suggestions out there?

Well...

I took my Apple TV in for a Genius Bar visit today -- and everything worked at the Apple Store. When I got home, it was still working.

All 3 issues are resolved:
- Apple account login on Apple TV now working
- Purchased content now authorizing
- YouTube now working.

The Genius Bar didn't do anything other than hook it up... I'm guessing there is a bug in the network settings in ATV 2.0 -- and somehow hooking up to a second network and doing a login there helped.

Hopefully its fixed for good now...

To OP, I'm a little confused. I don't understand how you log into iTunes with your username without @mac.com. Also, do you have both :apple:TVs in the same household and the content that isn't authorized is streaming from your iTunes library?

You do realize you can have an Apple ID tied to any email address, right?

You don't have to have .mac to have an Apple ID... I had the same problem and do not have a .mac account... I've been an iTunes user for ~5 years with never a problem with authorizing content until I got an Apple TV...
