As a new apple tv user and purchaser I have a few questions I hope some of you can ansewer

Firstly how do I convert avi files quickly to mpg ( I have hundreds from videos I have taken) so that I can upload to itunes

How do I upload ( or can I ) upload avi files to itunes?

I rented my first movie on apple tv last night only to find that it wouldn't play--I received a message stating
" an error occurred loading this content"

I have broadband
I have 5 star connection with latest updates
I can view previews of movies ok

Anyone .offer any suggestions?

Handbrake will work great for all your converting needs.

as far as the network issue, I'm not sure.

+1 for Handbrake, just use it's que and load up a bunch and let it process over night.

Thanks Guys but is there a way for avi files to be imported into itunes? When I choose "add to library" in file itunes and select an avi file nothing happens

No, they have to be converted. Use Handbrake to convert you avi files to the proper format m4v.

What to use instead of .avi

I use Aimersoft Total Media Converter: I find the best conversion is for Apple TV 5:1 Save result to your desktop or wherever, open iTunes and just slide the file over to the Films box on the left menu on iTunes. Otherwise RoadMovie (Mac App Store) is another alternative.
