Apple TV iTunes Library.

Hi, I've just got an Apple TV, and was wondering how other people have set up there library's? I'm also have an iPod touch on my system, which is loaded with music, but I'm just wanting to sync movies and TV shows to my Apple TV.

Am I best setting up a new library and using that? I use MultiTunes to switch between my general library and a library for an iPod shuffle. I was just thinking of setting up a new library with all the media I want to transfer over to the Apple TV.

Does anyone have any recommendations or advice?

I don't sync anything to the AppleTV. I just stream everything from my desktop. Scratch that...I guess I DO sync the last 12 months of photos.

I suppose if you want to host certain things locally on the AppleTV box, having an AppleTV playlist in iTunes would be a good move. It would allow you to manage things with one click rather than having to choose multiple checkboxes on the AppleTV iTunes pages.

But, if you have a Mac AND you are running Snow Leopard there is really very little reason to have any files reside on the AppleTV. 'Wake on Wireless' will allow your computer to be woken up from sleep whenever AppleTV needs to access iTunes.

I agree, except to caution that wake on wireless doesn't work with older Macs, even if they're running Snow Leopard. For us, the CPU needs to be set to "Always on".

Otherwise, streaming works very well, so I don't worry about syncing, especially as I have my ATVs all connected either via ethernet or an "n only" wi-fi network. Syncing only takes up bandwidth and CPU time, without serving any necessary purpose.

...When I set up my tv I downloaded my music etc but when tried to set up for streaming it deleted all the stuff downloaded Is there anything I am doing or rather missing when doing this as I guess I should be able to stream without losing everything I have sync to the hard drive.
