I have been holding up for a couple of years from buying a television, and the reason was rumors that Apple might be releasing a tv set. Ive been using my iMac as a tv but this is very uncomfortable since i can't sit on my couch but on my desk chair.
What is going on, will Apple release a television or not? Are there any rumours about this issue?

I doubt anyone on this forum knows if/when Apple will start making a television or a large monitor, and if they did, I doubt the would announce it on this thread.

This rumor has been around for 14 years, and comes back every couple years.

Personally, I would not hold out for Apple coming out with a TV, I don't think it will ever happen, or at least any time in the next few years.

The TV market has really thin margins, something that Apple typically doesn't deal in.

Even if Apple did start making a TV, I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap, so you could just buy a cheap TV set for now, and toss it if Apple decides to get into the TV market.

Yes, I totally agree with Vertical Smile.
The whole thing is changing so fast - HDMI 2.1, 4K now 8K sets are coming, 120fps seriously, a TV is dated after 2 or 3 years - even the LG OLEDs of 3 years ago are missing things that we regard as important.

The best thing as ever is to buy an Apple TV 4K box and replace it every time Apple announce a new one - something that i've done since ATV2.

An Apple Television would never work as the price would be bonkers! Apple NEVER discount their products (in the UK they put them up 20%). Whereas, when a LG OLED has been on the market for 6 months, we usually see a 30-40% price reduction - LG C8 £2999 NOW £2300 October probably 1899. We've just picked up the LG B7 OLED 55 for £1199. An Apple equivalent would probably be £4000+ you really have to ask who would pay that??? (For me, tragic to pay that for a TV - a bit sad!).

I was talking to some people at work about my new Apple TV 4k and they asked me how much I paid and the screen size?

I told them that I could not afford any television that Apple would make :)

Why would anyone want an Apple TV (I assume what you're referring to is a stand alone 4K monitor with a Apple label)? Built-in ATV? Probably a much higher price than LG, Samsung and other leading brands. What are you looking for, a 55", a 65", a 75" or bigger with a built-in Apple TV controller? Get real, buy a current 4K set and add a $150 ATV box. If it were me, I would get a smart 4K TV with built-in Netflix and Amazon Video.

Oh, wait a minute, I already have that with my LG Oled 65" with built-in apps for Netflix and Amazon Video AND I also have Apple's 4K ATV. Never mind, I'm not waiting for ANY monitor from Apple.

This is a typical scenario for me.

A conversation about my streaming equipment usually goes something like this:

Me: "I use an Apple TV 4."

Just about anyone that isn't me: "I didn't know Apple made TVs" or "What is that?" or "what size is it?"

Me: "It is like a Amazon Fire Stick."

Just about anyone that isn't me: "Oh, yeah, that is what I use."

In my experience, most people have never heard of a ATV, which is probably due to Apple treating it like a "hobby", but everyone knows what a FireStick is.

A TV make by Apple? I don't think it is necessary. I doubt Apple will ever going to make it, at least not now and this few years.
