Hi

I have an Apple TV 160GB running the latest Firmware. It is hacked using FireCore's atvFlash.

My iTunes library on my Mac is synced to the Apple TV hard drive (about 75GB). When opening My Music on the ATV it takes ages to list tracks.

For instance - going into the 'Artist' section takes anywhere upwards of 2minutes to load. And then selecting an artist can take a while aswell.

I did a bit of reading and some people said it could be the pairing of the iPhone remote, so I removed it and tried it - no change. Someone also said that it could Album Artworks causing the long load times. Now, while all my Albums are ID3 tagged and have album artworks on each individual file, I have playlists with individual tracks that have no ID3 tags and no Album Artworks. For example - one playlist has around 400tracks, no tags, no artworks - and clicking this playlist takes ages to load. And when it does load, it takes ages before I can scroll down.

Before I start spouting off at Apple about this - I want to see if there are any others having this problem and whether anyone has a solution.

Please remember that all the music is on the ATV hard drive. Nothing is being read over the network.

Many thanks.

With about 100Gb of music synced to my Apple TV 2.3 i have no problems browsing the music library. Everything is instantaneous, tracks & artwork loaded immediately and i have my iPhone synced up as a remote - however mine is not hacked.
Before you "start spouting off at Apple about this" have you tried it without the hack?

I have 2 ATVs, one wired and the other wireless. My music library is about the same as yours, and views quickly. Both of them stream my music fine, but I'll agree going through the long list, takes awhile. It would be nice, when your scrolling, it would show the letter of the alphabet.

I don't have atvFlash load on either of mine. I do however have Boxee loaded, and it hasn't caused the issues you describe.

I also have my iPhone connected as the remote, and no issues with that either.

Maybe do a restore (without atvFlash), and see if your music opens faster.

Seems weird, that my streaming is working better then your files on your ATV.

If the restore, doesn't help, you might have a defective ATV. I had one, that would not maintain it's connection to my iTunes library, returned it to Apple, and they gave me a new one.

Good luck.

You hacked your tv to do something it wasn't meant for. You shouldn't be surprised that it's not running like it should.

I have a large music library, all tagged with album art and lyrics. It all loads instantly. In fact, I use my AppleTV mainly for music. It feeds Air Tunes speakers in the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom as well as the main audio system in the living room.

I'd say you need to restore your tv to factory settings and use it like Apple intended it to be used.

Or at the very least, rest it and see if you still have the same problems when it's not hacked so at least you can figure out if the hack is causing the problem.

Maintenance > Reboot

Mine gets sluggish after a few days as well. It's atvFlash causing the slowdown. Must be a memory leak or apps not closing and chewing up cpu/memory.

Hi thanks for the advice.

I thought the hack might have caused it but the Hack is mainly to install extra video codecs. Shouldn't have really tinkered with anything to do with the music side of it.

I will however to a restore and see how that goes. If it is the hack then i'll raise a bug ticket with atvflash :)

Thanks guys.
