Hi,

I am looking to buy an Apple TV and I am undecided whether to get the old one with internal storage (2007) or a new one (2010),

I don't really care about the Netflix capabilities and TV Show rentals as im not living in the USA.

I would like to have the internal storage on my apple tv and have stuff already on it but i don't really like the bigger size (actually it doesn't really matter) and I don't want my old apple tv to overheat so much.

Also I don't want that now Apple will keep improving the new Apple TV living the old one back...

Given the points I made can you please help me make my decision

Thanks in Advance

Good question.
The old ATV will probably never get another software update from Apple. The new ATV2 might get apps, this could be very interesting.
I also like the internal drive in my ATV, I can load it up with all my music and many movies (I upgraded to 320gb). It's really handy for taking to a friends for movie night.
Now the new ATV2 supports Airplay. This is pretty amazing as I was playing with it last weekend. You can stream content from iTunes or an iOS device. Catch for streaming there is no DD5.1 passthrough just two channel audio. Else it's pretty neat.

Since your signature says you have both an iPad and an iPhone 4 I would definitely recommend the new model Apple TV. With Airplay, you can stream your photos, music, movies, and tv shows directly from your iOS devices further making a built in hard drive unnecessary. You wouldn't be able to do that with the old Apple TV since it does not support Airplay from your iOS devices. Also, your iPhone 4 shoots video in 720p/30 which the old Apple TV cannot handle but the new one can.

I would much prefer to have the Internal HD :apple:TV as my main HUB and then use the new :apple:TV's as satellites in various rooms. I don't have this set up yet as I'm still only using one original AppleTV. I've upgraded the HD of mine once but plan to get a bigger one in there eventually. My reasoning is to have the original :apple:TV loaded up with all my HD content and whatever else fits connected to my main TV so that I could still have most of my favorites on the device without needing the computer on all the time. Then use the newer :apple:TV's in other bedrooms mainly for netflix and other streaming purposes.

I guess your right, I'm probably gonna go with the New Apple TV and use airplay on my iPad and iPhone 4

Thanks for your help
