Apple TV New Or Old

I was not upset about it, but still sold my old apple tv and bought the new one, cause of the power usages.
iTV updates
I was not surprised, I am disappointed though. I bought a new one as well to experiment with.
There are cases for both, my next fear will be when will iTunes no longer support the old iTVs? I have 3 in my house and one in the motorhome, a few days before we leave on a trip, I just fire it up, it syncs over the wireless and away we go, its great!

Not at all, really: I've had plenty of use out of my Apple TV 1st Gen and it will continue to function as it always has: No-one is forcing you to buy a new one
It makes no sense at all to spend time developing on the 1st Gen as it uses a completely different platform and architecture, and with the move to a unified iOS platform for all Apple's non-computer devices we should see more rapid development of Apple TV in the future.

Considering that Apple still includes support for the first ever iPod in current versions of iTunes, my guess is that your Apple TVs will be recognized by iTunes for a long, long time indeed. It probably won't gain any functionality, but it probably won't be rendered useless anytime soon, either.
I'm wondering personally, the differences (aside from power usage) regarding the old and new Apple Tv's.
I'm assuming both stream Netflix, but am I right to guess that the new one can stream in HD whilst the old one can't?
Also, both do YouTube, but again am guessing the new one can handle HD content?
And aside from how the menus look, I'd say only other difference is with the old one I can store a bunch of movies and music on it?
I ask these questions cause i'm considering getting one for my pops for x-mas, but he would be using it as a standalone product, positive that he'll never be streaming something from his iTunes on his laptop considering he only has a few songs on there.

Yes, but only from the one iTunes library with which it's synced. The new one allows access to all shared iTunes libraries on the local network.
Then it seems the new one may be most beneficial to my dad considering he loves Netflix.
My employee discount gives it to me for ninety bucks, but as hoping to find it lower somewhere else.

That and the ease of use is why I'm getting an ATV 2nd gen for my sis for Christmas.
For me, I'm keeping my ATV 1st gen until the 2nd gen can do this (which BTW, I've heard one of the XBMC dev's is working on a port):
Developer Discount and employee purchase discount are the same on the Apple TV. I don't think you'll find it any cheaper anywhere else at this point. It's a low profit margin item so there isn't much room to discount it. Any retailer discounting it more won't see any profit from it.
