Apple TV+ on new MacBook Air

I’ve just switched from a 1st gen iPad Pro to the new air (i5). So far it’s great but I have noticed the films and series I purchased through iTunes and watch through the native TV app don’t play as smooth compared to the iPad. It definitely isn’t a hardware bottleneck as the air does not get hot and CPU utilisation is really really low. I’m not saying it’s not watchable but definitely not as smooth. Also with subtitles on, there is the odd flicker on the screen. Any thoughts from anyone? Is it likely a software Issue in MacOS?
