I'm on the fence and cant decide which to get...
Apple TV vs. Boxee Box vs. Imation link USB adapter vs. nettop vs. WD Live TV vs. Roku XR?

What I really want to do is either stream my divx, avi, mkv, etc files from my pc and view on my TV or.... have it on a HDD and watch it on my tv? Whats the best solution? I did see a USB port on the Apple TV but unclear of what the USB is used for? will there be hacks that allow it connect a HDD and play the different file formats?

Please advise!
 
Its quite easy with Quicktime Player, and fast as well.. However it'd have to be downgraded to 720p and Stereo sound.

Ok... any of you tried the other products mentioned?
Im leaning towards WD Live TV or Imation link usb adapter (ill have to leave my pc on all the time though...)
How good is boxee or Roku?
 
Well a net-top is by far the most configurable, because you can put on great apps like XBMC to act as an interface for all your movies, tv shows etc.

As for Boxee Box, it isn't out yet, but it certainly looks very promising. It has nVidia Tegra 2 inside which allows it to play 1080p files in just about every format without a hitch, and with optical sound it allows for 5.1 DTS and better.

Haven't had a chance to try Roku, but its price makes it quite enticing..

Sorry new at this stuff...what is XBMC? What does it do?
Do you know if Roku and/or Boxee is capable of connecting a HDD and play videos like WD Live TV? Thanks.

The Boxee Box was looking good but the Tegra 2 is only capable of decoding 1080p video at upto 10Mbits which is to low to make it of any real use.
 
If I go nettop route, whats a good nettop and reasonable price? or should I just get a simple small desktop?
 
If I have files on my pc or mac using VLc to play...will it stream to apple tv with airplay?
