Hello!

This Christmas, I am trying to help my Dad make his pool/patio area nicer by adding some speakers so he can play his itunes outside.

Instead of doing the normal receiver>wires>drill thru the walls> mount outside>plug in the device thru another wire method, i wanted to plug in and mount an ATV in his garage and run speakers directly from there to his pool. This way he can use AirPlay to control his outdoor system...only have one question.
I want to run the optical audio to the speakers...what's the easiest way to do that? I know I cant just go ATV>Optical Audio>Speakers...it has to be like ATV>Optical Audio>Receiver or Converter>Speakers

How can i plug in speakers like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Dual-LU43PB-I...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1322433644&sr=1-2

to an Apple TV

I have seen devices like this.

http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Analo...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1322433691&sr=1-13

would this work for what i need it for?

Any help would be appreciated!

The optical is only needed for multi-channel sound, so if you're watching surround sound movies out there you need the ATV and optical audio. If you're using this for music the airport express is a much better tool for the job. I have several around the house and they work great.

Either way you'll need a receiver between that and your speakers to provide the power. The converter won't work since you need an amplifier.

Personally for my pool area I have speaker wires that connect to a multi zone receiver in the house. That system is all controlled from my ipad.
Its trivial for an electrician to run some basic speaker cable, and that way you don't need all sorts of electronics out there.

Get and airport express and a mini amp (I got a Pyle 120 watt x 2Ch, amazon for $60) and run couple speakers to your dads patio. It's on your network and controlled from any iOS device.

I have this setup both in the garage and on my patio. Stream iTunes, pandora, iheartradio or anything.....

Thanks!! Had not heard of the AirPort Express. Definitely checking that out. Much appreciated!
