My mom has a windows based laptop its a 2006 model with only 100 gig hd.

She wants to know if she buys apple tv can all the download content be stored on the apple tv or does it have to be stored on the laptops hd which is not big at all.

When she would download something via her tv with apple tv would that just store it on the apple tv or make a copy and take space on both cpu and apple tv?

you can put everything on the apple tv hard drive, but I think it needs to be on iTunes on the laptop first.

You can't record TV on the appletv, only download stuff or transfer from your iTunes

Thing her laptop only got 100gig from factory, would it even be worthwhile?

once u put it on the apple tv can u delete the computer file?

If she doesn't mind the quick setup, she can just connect her laptop to her tv and watch her content that way. It's not as elegant, but it won't cost her anything. It's what I've been doing since my ATV died.

Be a good son Mike

Buy an ATV so you know how the thing works ;)

Best practice would be for her to store content on a large external HD, RAID if possible, and then stream the content to her ATV through her laptop.

The laptop has to be powered on and iTunes needs to be running. Of course the ext HD has to be connected.

She can also sync content from her Laptop, but the limiting factor becomes the ATV HD.

Again, buy one and play with it. It's very well done, great media device for music, photos and video as well. Just what grandma needs to see her grand-kids Mike.
