I'm wanting to get my parents the new AppleTV for Christmas, but had a question. One of our favorite things about the device - previous generation - is showing slideshows of our pics as it streams music from iTunes. Will the new version do this as well? I see it will stream photos, but will it do both?

I ask because the pictures are always copied to the hard drive on our current model. Although music and movies are streamed.

Thanks.

There's only one change that would make this function absolutely perfect: Allow the Internet Radio to continue playing in the background during the slideshow. That would be great for holiday gatherings.

You can kind of do that, use your slide show as your screensaver and the int radio will play over that.

Hmm, interesting indeed. When I've left the Radio app menu to go do something else, the audio stops when I select that new section. Then again, I haven't specifically gone directly to a Photos library section either. I may have to test this in the upcoming days.

the suggestion is that you use the screensaver so there is no need to move away from the radio. Just set up the screensaver in settings, play the radio and leave it.

Right. I've seen that happen already.

But suppose you have several photo albums you'd like to share. The screensaver seems to allow only one photo album as its source. Next chance I get, I'll see if the radio continues to play through the Photos section of a library.

Last night, I finally got around to testing a variation of KeithJenner's suggestion: start an Internet Radio station, then go to a library and attempt to look manually at photos and/or start some slideshows.

And, well, whaddayaknow-- the Radio kept streaming. No need to group individual folders into "smart albums"; I can jump from album to album as desired without a skip.

Of course, my only problem now is the fact that the photos in my wife's collection are huge in size and take a long time to load. I may have to pull a selection of them and run them through Pixelmator for optimization.
