Hey

I have some questions regarding the Apple TV.

I currently use a Windows desktop, Ipad 1, Iphone 4 and Iphone 3gs.

If I wanted to send music and films to TV would I need to use my apple products or could I use my Windows desktop.

Do I need Apple TV 2 or is a 3 coming out soon?

James

You can use iTunes to send media from your Windows computer.

The current black Apple TV is the Apple TV 2. There has been some speculation on whether Apple will release an Apple TV 3 in the Fall. I say, wait until the September iPod event before you purchase one.

apple tv would be announced at the september event as apple considers it with the iPod/itunes category.

this event will be long.

-recap of iOS 5
-iPhone
-iPods
-possibly apple tv.

fine with me as i always love a good stevenote

Another question I had was, when I use my windows computer can I only send stuff to the Apple TV from Itunes, as I have DVD and stuff saved on my computer which I use VLC for.

You could import that content into itunes

You could get another piece of software to run on your pc to perform the media server function but that would be pointless -refer to my 1st point.

You could store all your content on a NAS box that supports/emulates itunes as a media center such as the Synology, which also means you no longer need to have your pc switched on 24/7.

Atv

I have a NAS with 4 TB of movies. I seldom access them any more. I am in the process of deleting all but the ones I like best. I have two ATV2 and machines I am making playlists with movies i'll watch. I have transferred almost all the deleted movies to an external. I look at it and think "why?"

So the minis keep the best and freshest movies and kids crap. If streaming was really reliable, I'd never buy another movie.

Hi

Got another question.

I heard about you can mirror an Ipad onto the TV, so apps or internet is on TV.

Could somebody explain how this works and what apple products can be mirrored?

Presently, with iOS 4 it can be done using an iPad and a Digital AV Adapter connecting directly to the TV. With upcoming iOS 5, you'll be able to mirror using AirPlay (over local network) to an Apple TV connected to your TV. I believe it is only for the iPad, no iPhone or iPod Touch.

Thanks for the reply.

Has it been said what Ipad it will work with? As I got an Ipad 1 and will upgrade when the next one comes out.

As of right now, only mirroring via AirPlay will only be available for iPad 2.
