Apple TV questions

Hey,

Im new to Apple TV and have a few questions. Please forgive my ignorance, they might seem a bit stupid!

1)

On the new Apple TV can I stream directly from my MBP?

2)

If so, is this only things purchased directly from iTunes, or can other things be streamed?

3)

When streaming from my iPad can I still use other functions?

4)

Can only officially purchased movies be streamed from the iPad?

5)

As doubtful as it is, can I stream things from websites that I'm streaming from?

#1: Yes, using iTunes

#2: Doesn't have to be purchased from iTunes, but it needs to be in a format iTunes and the Apple TV recognizes.

#3: Yes

#4: See #2

#5: You can't stream from Safari on your MBP, but you can stream certain things from Safari on your iPad, depending on if they have enabled Airplay. In my experience, there is very little content you can stream this way.

Yes

anything that is in an ATV/iTunes compatible format, not just iTunes DRM'd content.

When streaming from my iPad can I still use other functions?

Not sure - I don't use my iPad for this

No

not yet - this is supposed to be supported in the next version of OS X (Mountain Lion)

Thanks guy, I REALLY appreciate it. Apple seem to be oddly vague about this kind of thing on the site. I shall be buying the new Apple TV next week!

With regards to #5, you will be able to do that this summer when Mountain Lion comes out or you can purchase AirParrot for $10, which does that now

Another reason, if i needed one! Im really impressed with Apple TV, it seems like a decent amount of bang for you buck

AirParrot works good! And now even has audio to TV (must load driver)

But some type is hard to read - not bad - (but a TV is not a monitor)
Great for streaming a movie that is not mp4!

The cpu seems high, (very high compared to iTunes streaming.)

If your running Snow, it's worth $10. If your running Mountain - no.
