Apple TV Remote messing up GF's Macbook

Just got an apple tv, and have been playing with it. Problem: GF is using her macbook (10.6.8 running). When i use the Apple TV Remote, it is messing with her macbook (changing volume, opening front row, etc). I just started a Netflix movie on the TV, and by the time i had finished that, i had somehow started Simon and Garfunkel playing on her macbook. I see no setting in preferences to deal with disabling it.... what can i do?

The preference to disable the IR receiver on her Macbook is in the Security pref pane. Should be the last check box.

Now I have to do this as well. I usually use my iPod to control the ATV, but my wife uses the remote. it is always doing that stuff to her as well.
