Apple tv setup troubles

I'm surprised to have the latency issues on apple tv that I am. I normally use a wireless G and have my atv connected via a hardwire- it passes through a gige switch. I figured wireless g was the issue and bought a netgear n600-premium edition. I haven't noticed a substantial boost in performance.

My test scenario- play music through the apple music player and play a game using the mirror mode on my iPad at the same time.

I am able to stream movies fine but I really want movie streaming plus mirrored mode on my iPad. Are my expectations too high?

Have you tried wired Ethernet?

I am using wired Ethernet directly in to the apple tv. The wireless component is from the iPad.

wireless isn't an exact science,

depending on what the signal has to pass through 2.4GHz may be better than 5GHz. 2.4 has better range. even though 5 is faster when you have a good signal, it doesn't pass through objects as well.

is your router out in the open, or buried?
how far away is the router?
how many walls between?
does the signal go straight through the walls or diagonally?
lots of obstacles in the path? a kitchen cabinet full of pots and pans is a big RF block.
any other wireless networks in the area? try changing channels on your router.
any other electronics in the area that could be causing interference?

also airplaying movies and mirroring are 2 different things, the movie can buffer ahead as the file is already there, so any small network problems can be overcome.

I never considered moving down to the 2.4 band on my atv. Your questions make me think that it may be the issue.

I understand movies are different, but to compare performance I am using what I consider to be the most taxing thing you can do on atv.

It works much better- my expectations have been met. I guess 5 isn't better than 2.4 in all situations
