Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to connect an Apple TV with active speakers (optical audio to 3.5 mm jack)? And use it without a TV.

I'd rather pay £30 more and have the Apple TV over an Airport Express.

Cheers.

Yes and no. You could do that using the remote app on an iPhone, iPad or touch. However it is hard to do anything other than listen to music or watch a video as the controls are limited without a video source. I use the setup you are saki g about at my beach house for easy acess to music so I dont have to turn on the tv. I am using a 1st gen which has a 40 gb hardvdrive. This way I don't need a computer. However, I can't stream to it like atv 2 or an express. Hope this helps

Apple tv o speakers

I use an old receiver with an apple tv 2 as an audio zone. You can do the same with any AirPlay enabled speakers. The ihome iw1 looks good.

Should work fine. Obviously no video without a tv (might want oneconne Ted for initial setup), but will work fine. Not sure about other countries but the US online store often has refurb ATV2s for $85.

thanks for all the replies.

is there an easy/cheap way to connect my speakers (sound sticks II) to an optical audio out?
