Apple TV Take 2 or 3 boot time?

Hi all.

I own an Apple TV 1st gen but I keep it on a powersaving circuit where it turns off when I turn the TV off. Unfortunately it takes quite a while for it to turn on.

Could I as anybody who owns a new apple tv, preferably a third gen, to record the boot time from completely powered down.

ATV2 18 seconds...ATV3 15 seconds....Both timings are to when the screen appears properly, the time it takes for your icons to appear depends on your connection....My ATV2 is wifi, the newbie is hard wired.

Just to clarify - a first gen apple tv takes approx 73 seconds to turn on! It would worth getting the new apple tv just for boost in boot time let alone the new features.

Well, I wouldn't buy the newbie just for boot speed, but the 3 is a huge improvement...You could also consider a New or refurbished ATV2...720p yes, but still perfectly usable.

Only a $100 dollars and it might be supported a bit longer knowing apple . Thanks for your help!

For me at least, it takes an additional 5-10 seconds after the home screen appears before the remote becomes functional. It's still a lot better than the ATV1, by the sounds of it.

Also do remember, that the new AppleTV's use a lot less power than the original AppleTV. Magnitudes less power. There really wouldn't be any need to turn it fully off since it only has a 6 watt power supply (no hard drive, an ARM processor, etc.)! It just sipps power. The original came with a 48 watt power supply, so at full load the newest model uses less than 13% of the original under full load (I have no idea how much they each use at idle, so I am using full load for comparison).

Or at full load on both units, the original would use over a Kilowatt in less than 1 Day. The new models would take almost a week before it hits a full Kilowatt of energy used (again at full load). Amazing!

I didn't buy the first one, so only have the 2 to compare it to...It's much snappier.
