This may have already been answered...sorry if so.

I have an Apple TV in the media room hooked to the LCD in that room. Now I know i can stream to that Apple TV cause I do it regularly. However, I am thinking of buying another to hook to the LCD in the living room. Now the question...suppose I rent something for me and wife to watch in the living room. Since its available for 24 hours from start, would the kids be able to watch it on the "other" Apple TV? Not meaning at the same time, but...once the wife and I "screen" it, we might would want to let the kids watch.

I can only assume that "if" this is possible, the only way would be to rent on iTunes on my iMac then stream, versus renting directly on the Apple TV itself. Could I not then stream or "transfer" as iTunes calls it to which ever Apple TV I chose?

I found this on a Apple support document:

You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be played on one device at a time. If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.

I've never purchased from the computer, transferred to Apple TV, then brought it back to the computer and moved to my other Apple TV, but this paragraph would seem to indicate that it can be done.

Yea I found that right after I posted. Strange thing is though...I can see how your would send from iTunes on iMac to the Apple TV, but I don't seem to know how (or by what avenue) you would send it back. Same question would apply to syncing/sending to the iphone...sending it back would be the question huh?

I know that when I purchase something on my synced Apple TV, I can send it back to iTunes by right clicking (ctrl+click) on the Apple TV icon and choosing "Transfer Purchases". Perhaps when you've rented something from the computer and transferred it to the AppleTV, you would have a "Transfer Rental" option in the same location? This is just a guess, I've never tried it. However, the idea is starting to intrigue me, so I might have to try it this weekend. Man, I need to get a life.... :)

Ok, just tried it myself.....I rented a movie on my computer. Once you have it downloaded, go into iTunes and click on the device you want to transfer it to. Then click on the "Movies" tab and at the top you will see the movie you just rented. It will by under the "Library" heading with an "Move" button that will allow you to move it to the other device. Click on "Apply" to start the transfer. Once it's on the other device, you can use the same method and move it back to the library.

I was able to move the movie from my computer to my apple tv, back to my computer and then to my ipod and back again also. Note that you are moving it and not copying it....the movie is only on one device at a time.
Also, I believe this only works on on a SYNCED Apple TV, not a steaming ATV setup. I have one of each, and the ATV that I have set up to stream was not listed as an option for the transfer. I guess that's one limitation of streaming....

Hope this helps.

Yep it certainly does help. I was going to try the same thing, I just couldn't find anything I wanted to rent...so you beat me to it. Thanks again.
